PMA journey for Cindy Fabre
Cindy Fabre initially confided that she had gone to her gynecologist because of stomach pains “unlivable“. Twenty-four years ago, she discovered that having a baby with her partner at the time was “almost naturally impossible“. “I had a blocked tube, he also had difficulties. We had maybe a 5% chance of conceiving a child naturally“, she revealed. So, she had to turn to PMA to become a mother. A “hyper-medicalized course“made of injections or numerous ultrasounds, with many ups and downs. Despite everything, with the man who shared her life, she tried to bring romance to the stages they were experiencing.”The first try worked. I was 25 or 26 when we started. And we did it because we were told it was going to be difficult and long. We were told it would take about five years“, she clarified. The former beauty queen was therefore surprised to quickly be became pregnant, while shewasn’t ready“. “I had a complicated eight months, because it was a high-risk pregnancy. The risk of losing your child. It prevents you from projecting yourself, from investing“, she admitted. Especially since she had several exam results that were not good.
In the seventh month of pregnancy, Cindy Fabre had a hemorrhage. Three weeks later, she returned to the hospital for bleeding, except this time, she wasn’t going to come out right away. She has had to undergo general anesthesia, when she didn’t expect it. “It’s a cold shower again. (…) I was told: ‘There are too many risks, we’re putting you to sleep. I was sound asleep. Waking up was very complicated. I didn’t see anything. I couldn’t open my eyes, it was too much for me. They say to me: ‘Hold your baby.’ And there, feeling of guilt. I can’t open my eyes, I can’t see anything. I hold a shape, without ever really guessing its face. (…) I went back to sleep, I had difficulty getting back up. The next day, I had a newborn next to me. But I couldn’t get up, I had 4 blood pressure. I couldn’t give him first aid. I was amorphous“, she recalled very moved.
Cindy Fabre then asked herself a lot of questions. She wondered if it was really her child. “Viscerally, I don’t feel anything, nothing is happening“, she clarified. She had the impression that she was not born to be a mother. It took her a year to create the bond with her little Elio. “It can be long, it’s not serious in itself, but the trauma was also long“, she continued. And added that she does not remember the four days following the birth. Fortunately, she managed to find peace since then and accepted the situation.
Now 12 years old, Elio knows his story.
