Stephany Ortega: A Luxembourger sang in front of 12,500 people

“I have performed in China, the United States, the Caribbean and Europe before, but this was the first time I performed in front of so many people. It was the most memorable concert of my career. A week after the event, Stephany Ortega still has difficulty realizing what she experienced on the first day of the new year.

Two months ago, the Hungarian violinist Zoltán Mága invited the Dominican-Luxembourg singer to the 17th edition of his New Year’s concert, at the Papp Laszlo Budapest Sportaréna. Alongside 25 singers, including former Eurovision winners and Grammy nominees, “a dream team,” she says.

Stephany Ortega sang the version of “Feeling Good” by Michael Bublé, in front of a packed house of 12,500 people, on two occasions, and accompanied by the Budapesti Primarius Szimfonikus Zenekar & Budapesti Gipsy Virtuózok orchestras, led by conductor Krisztian Balassa.

“The theme was to bring together artists from all European countries. Zoltán highlighted the fact that music is a bridge between nations, a symbol of peace, unity and harmony. “Together we are Europe,” he declared,” the singer tells us.

“The concert (Editor’s note: which will be broadcast in mid-January in Hungary and then will be visible on YouTube) mixed classical, jazz, pop and film music. I received very good feedback about my performance, people were very touched,” confides Stephany Ortega. After this unforgettable start to the year, she will play in the coming months in Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and China.
