Kate turns forty-three: a birthday marked by hope

It’s a seemingly insignificant birthday but one that means a lot to the Princess of Wales. If her celebration itself should not materialize in anything other than a family reunion around her husband Prince William and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis, the entire kingdom is hoping for a photo, a sign, something that reassures him. And which marks the end of a painful period, during which she devoted all her energy to fighting the disease.

The previous anniversary was that of the consecration. In the year following the coronation of King Charles, Kate fully embraced her new status as Princess of Wales. As comfortable during crowd baths as for state dinners, as radiant in jeans as in a tiara, the wife of Prince William exudes an ease and fullness rarely equaled.

In March, it’s a shock. After several weeks of absence which had given rise to increasingly insistent media questioning, Kate appears in a video. Thin, with drawn features, she explains that she is being treated for cancer. The United Kingdom, in shock, realizes that the Windsors, already affected by the illness of King Charles, are doubly weakened. And if his appearance, placed under the sign of sincerity and courage, lastingly moves the majority of the country, the sometimes malicious attacks and the wildest speculations conveyed by social networks are not completely defused.

Only his appearance, on June 15, during the Trooping the Color ceremony, brought a first respite and reassured the spirits. A month later, fifteen thousand spectators gave her a standing ovation at Wimbledon when she entered center court to watch the men’s final. The summer concludes with the couple’s most intimate video ever released, a long family romance set against the backdrop of romantic Norfolk moors. Despite these few public appearances, including his concert Together at Christmas dearly December, only his presence at the end of Christmas mass at Sandringham was experienced as a real relief. Always smiling, she finally takes the time to chat with the many people who came to support her.

What will be the content of this new year that opens before her? Taking care of yourself and preserving your health remains a priority, just as much as the education of your children. On a personal level Kate, and especially William, have become more aware than ever of the importance of protecting their family circle. Regarding his agenda, decisions will be made as they go. But it is likely that the Princess of Wales’ activities will focus on supporting those who are suffering. Attention to others, mentioned by King Charles in his Christmas speech, is more than ever the philanthropic driving force of the monarchy. Often perceived as dehumanized and far from daily concerns, the institution saw its image change with the ordeals experienced by the king and his daughter-in-law. This unintended consequence of the tragedy that befell them will certainly have an impact on the future. In the meantime, Kate can count on the love of her family and her in-laws, and that of an entire kingdom.
