The star host of M6 will be at the helm of the Paris criminal court this Thursday. Stéphane Plaza will have to answer for regular violence against two of his former partners.
Will Stéphane Plaza be present?
Stéphane Plaza will be present at the hearing this Thursday, assured his lawyers Carlo Alberto Brusa and Hélène Plumet, specifying that their client had always “wanted to be present” to defend himself in court. The 54-year-old real estate agent should have been tried in August 2024 but he did not appear at the hearing, due, according to his defense, to “psychological fragilities”. A court-ordered psychiatric assessment has since confirmed that he is fit to stand trial.
What is Stéphane Plaza accused of?
Stéphane Plaza will be judged for “habitual physical and/or psychological violence by a partner” between 2018 and 2022 against a former partner, Amandine. The complainant accuses him in particular of having “dislocated two fingers and broken another” on April 25, 2022. This violence allegedly occurred after Stéphane Plaza discovered that she had responded, on social networks, to messages from a woman which he also frequented. The same day, the real estate agent allegedly grabbed her by the collar, then slammed her against a wall, before placing his forearm on her throat and declaring: “I don’t know if you know what it is, suffering. But now you’re going to really suffer, I hope you’re ready for what’s next. »
Stéphane Plaza is also accused of “habitual psychological violence by a partner”, between 2021 and 2022, on Paola, a former candidate on the show Search for apartment or house with whom the presenter had a relationship. Her complaint alleges violence committed “by denigrating her, insulting her, threatening her, insulting members of her family, and biting her”, according to her lawyer Clotilde Lepetit, cited by franceinfo. “He was sometimes very aggressive, he told me that if he saw me with someone, he would kill me,” Paola tells Mediapart. A total incapacity for work of more than eight days was established for these two women.
What is the host’s defense?
Stéphane Plaza, who faces 10 years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros, contests these accusations. The real estate agent will show “his two accusers that building revenge through lies will not result in any conviction,” said his defense, who should request acquittal. “The posture of the defendant Plaza, which consists of presenting himself as a victim of spurned women, is a laughable cliché,” retorts Benjamin Chouai, Amandine’s counsel.
Stéphane Plaza filed a complaint against the two women for harassment and cyberharassment. This complaint has so far yielded nothing. But another woman and her new companion will be tried in March in Grasse (Alpes-Maritimes), for harassment for her and attempted extortion for him, facts which would have been committed after the Mediapart revelations.
Will he leave M6?
Stéphane Plaza is one of the French’s favorite presenters and brings together millions of viewers with his various programs (Search for apartment or house, House for saleetc.).
In the absence of a conviction of the host by the courts, M6 has repeatedly ruled out ending their collaboration. In the fall, however, several media outlets claimed that the channel was working to “liquidate” the Stéphane Plaza shows already in stock. At the end of June 2024, during M6’s back-to-school conference, its general director of programs, Guillaume Charles, assured that the collaboration was continuing. “An internal investigation was carried out, it showed nothing,” said the manager, according to comments reported by the press. “There are legal proceedings underway, we are waiting to know what will happen,” added Guillaume Charles, invoking the “presumption of innocence”.
