From LOSC goalkeeper to a first call-up to the Blues, Lucas Chevalier must manage a growing reputation in France. He must therefore adapt to daily life, as do his loved ones.
The winter break is a period of rest for footballers, used to playing matches day after day. This was all the more welcome for Lucas Chevalier, who had not really cut time this summer to recover from a knee injury contracted in Nantes at the end of the 2023-2024 season. However, he was quickly caught up in football, with repeated media appearances. This Friday, he spoke about his daily life as a French international on the radio
Europe 1.
Lucas Chevalier, aka the chameleon
At the age of 23, Lucas Chevalier sees his stature evolve over the months through the Champions League and a first call-up to the French team. He must therefore adapt to a growing reputation: “My life… Already, I get up in the morning and I go to training, like any player. I return home early in the afternoon, between 2 and 3 p.m. Afterwards, we are human beings. So we get busy. Sometimes we need to go shopping. We sometimes go shopping. In fact, wherever you go, you have to be vigilant”he begins.
He then takes us into his daily life: “I don’t do my shopping in the evening around 6 p.m.he explains, ready to get into concrete events. This is not possible. I don't want it to go in all directions.
I still choose my hours. I know when I do it. I also know when I need to go to Lille to do my shopping. I'm not going to go there on a Saturday afternoon for example. It would be unpleasant for me, but also for others. Even if I don't get recognized, you still have to make sure that people don't recognize you. That’s what’s a bit heavy”continues the Lille goalkeeper.
“I also have two cats, so I take care of them. I go to the vet, who knows who you are, then the client who is there takes a photo with you. Everywhere you go, there is a reckoning. It's not disturbing. Sometimes it's nice and other times, like all humans, you want to be peaceful. It's not that we don't like people, but we can be in a hurry sometimes. There is this little complication. When I go to put gas. I put on my hood. I look to the right then to the left because it can go away quickly”says Lucas Chevalier.
His friends
This stature also has repercussions on his friends, and his entourage, which he has built while being aware of certain excesses inherent to football: “I don't have many friendshe confides. That can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Unconsciously and naturally I did it when I rose in popularity. I really got closer to the people I felt were real, the good ones, and I distanced myself from the people who weren't there for the right reasons. You felt something different. »
And then their daily life: “It's sometimes difficult to organize, but we try to see each other regularly at each other's homes. We sometimes go to restaurants, but it's always the same with the problem of being a little hassled.
We do a lot of things at home and it's good to be around people from outside. They are in normal, everyday life, and we need that too. These people do you good”underlines the native of Calais in the show named The Legends Studio.
Ses parents
Finally, Lucas Chevalier admits it. The lives of his parents were also impacted: “There are pros and cons. I feel they are proud. My life has changed, but so has theirs. They become well-known people, especially in Calais. My mother is a shopkeeper in Coquelles and everyone knows her. Mrs. Chevalier who is the mother of Lucas Chevalier. Some clients come just to get things signed. We always accept, but there you go. HAS
conversely, people can reappear, even among their parents. There is this side, where people try to get closer by every possible route. This is also one of the disadvantages”he concludes, raising this subject for the first time in the media.
