Our personalities of the year 2024: Danick Martineau

Participate in Big Brother Celebritys. This dream was very high on Danick Martineau’s list. In 2024, the artist from Martinville in Estrie managed to achieve this goal not only by taking part in this well-known reality show, but also by winning top honors, a springboard for his young career.

Danick Martineau quickly went from being a host on CIGN in Coaticook to being a member of the Energy team in Sherbrooke and finally finding himself at 96.9 CKOI in Montreal.

As if 2024 hadn’t been busy enough, he found time to host the Hilarium humor festival at the end of August in Sherbrooke.

For all these reasons, Danick Martineau was named the cultural personality of the year by The Tribune.

And this holiday season, the opportunity was too good not to take a look back with the 2024 cultural star, who is finally preparing to take some time for himself, with his family and his partner, before to get back into action quickly by participating in the special edition of Big Brotherwhich will bring together former champions of Quebec reality TV in 2025.

What is your best memory of 2024?

Danick Martineau: I liked my year in general. Choosing a memory is difficult.

If I had to make a choice, I would go with my arrival at CKOI 96.9 radio. Working on radio in Montreal, in a star market, I thought I would get there when I was older, and make my entry into the metropolitan media later.

The fact of having participated in Big Brother of course helped me to make myself known and break into the world of radio more quickly.

Earn Big Brother is also a great souvenir. It’s a game that I’ve always loved, so I’m obviously going to remember this moment for the rest of my life.

Your artistic or cultural favorite of 2024?

DM: I really like Quebec music. The one who found himself in my headphones most often this year was undoubtedly Jay Scott.

His new album is perfect. It lasts about 30 minutes, just long enough for a ride tank! He has an attachment to Quebec and he is very connected with Quebecers too.

I am lucky to have known him and we became friends over time. A natural friendship formed and Jay Scott is such a good person, a genuine artist, who doesn’t misrepresent himself.

He is my big favorite of 2024 in singing, otherwise it would be Arnaud Soly in the cultural world. A person I really like too.

A disappointment in 2024?

DM: This one is easy. Without hesitation, I answer Canadian.

Since the CH drafted Galchenyuk, I have dreamed of a cup and it seems that nothing has improved over the years. We draft prospects, we say that in three years, we will be competitive. But for 12 years personally, I have heard the Canadian promise success and ultimately, I am afraid of never seeing a Stanley Cup in my lifetime in Montreal. This is my biggest fear.

The Canadian has taken a big place in my heart for a long time and has disappointed me this year: hopes are not growing as quickly, Patrik Laine is injured, Kirby Dach is having difficulties and we are almost last! It’s not good…

Your favorite holiday tradition?

DM: Get together as a family on December 24 and 25. It happened at my grandparents’ house before, then my parents started welcoming the family and soon, it will be my sister and I’s turn to host in our homes.

We are very conservative in our traditions: sausages wrapped in bacon, family discussions…

What do you wish for us collectively for 2025?

DM: A better social atmosphere. Tenderness and respect. Whether on the road, in traffic, in the store, on social networks.

It’s increasingly tense since COVID. The general atmosphere has been heavy since the pandemic and it is not always easy. People seem exhausted.

We should give ourselves a chance.

There are a lot of attacks on social networks, I don’t necessarily attract hatred, but I can receive it sometimes and it can affect us directly.

So I wish us a more socially pleasant climate in 2025.
