David Hallyday was the first to contact him to integrate his “variable geometries” into his clip “Eternels”. Then everything happens quickly. He appears in “Girl Like Me” by Black Eyed Peas and Shakira. “She was the one who contacted me in a private message on social networks. I couldn’t believe it and I thought it was a joke”remembers the artist. “We were in the middle of Covid in July 2020. The project did not get done and I didn’t hear any more until the end of August when she contacted me again. It had to be done the following week. At first we wanted to do it in Los Angeles but ultimately we filmed in Barcelona after taking a Covid test at home.”
He also collaborates with stars like Rihanna, Jenifer Lopez, Kendrick Lamar and Chris Brown. An opportunity for him to rub shoulders with big celebrities. “Shakira is very simple. The first address she gave me was hers. That says it all! We spent a week at her place, the connection was made quickly. Afterwards, everyone “It’s not like that. There are artists who are more complicated, less warm and very American.”he confides without mentioning names.
“I would like to work with Angèle and Stromae”
The music world is not the only one struggling for it. His artistic style was seen at the Grammy Awards and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Brands like Louboutin, Moncler, Mercedes and Samsung have also used his poetic and geometric movements. His celebrity has not yet allowed him to obtain the collaboration of his dreams. “I’m a fan of films. I admire the composer Hans Zimmer. I really like his work and his way of doing things. He inspires me a lot”laughs Sadeck Berrabah. “Otherwise, an event I would love to be at would be the Super Bowl. Let’s dare to dream big! But every artist is inspiring in their own way.”
Deep Purple, Gotye, Madonna…: they plagiarized Brazilian songs or are suspected of having done so
The Belgians are not forgotten and inspire him. “Obviously, I would like to work with Angèle and Stromae! They are incredible. There is a lot going on in Belgium on the music scene but also especially in terms of comics”declares the dancer-choreographer.
Each of his choreographies is drawn. Transposing his creativity into the 7th Arts is a challenge that he is ready to take on. “It would be interesting to have a written and drawn choreography that everyone could reproduce at home,” comments the man who opened the Brussels festival In the Streets.
“Murmuration” traces, with 46 dancers, the history of its movements based on the geometry of the body, of its influences… “I wanted to develop a concept that brings together everything I love: nature, dance, martial art, geometry, drawing.”explains Sadeck Berrabah. He presented an extract last Sunday during the closing evening of Cap 48. “The first time it was done on social networks. It was a small format and then I was offered to make a show out of it. It’s a sequence of lots of paintings. You just have to choose which ones you keep.”
Keep your feet on the ground
He will return to Brussels, at the ING Arena on December 21 and 22. He is already working on level 2 of “Murmuration”. He has quite a few projects in the Middle East, in Dubai and Doha. A well-paced life that can make you dizzy.
“From my background, from where I come from, I know that you have to keep your feet on the ground. I tell myself that everything that goes up comes down. I stay in my place”affirms the artist. “We tell ourselves that everything is possible, especially in our era. You can be someone ordinary and become a super star thanks to social networks. As soon as you have a dream, you have to go for it. I have lucky that the concept also appeals in live format.”
Brussels, Palais 12, December 21 and 22 at 8:30 p.m.
