Elton John has revealed he lost the sight in one eye following a serious infection.

MUSIC – He couldn't even admire the fruit of his labor. Elton John lost the sight in his right eye following an eye infection contracted in the south of last July. The British singer has since revealed that he hasn't seen anything from the musical The Devil Wears Pradafor which he composed the music.

He attended a special performance of the show at the Dominion Theater in London given this Sunday, December 1 for World AIDS Day. On stage, Elton John explained that he was unable to attend many previews of the musical because of his eyesight. “So it’s hard for me to see her. But I like listening to it, and tonight it sounded good.”he added.

The gala evening was organized in support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, created in 1992 to fight AIDS. The composer of the adaptation of Devil wears Prada thanked her husband David Furnish, her « roc »for his support during this difficult period.

Elton John's new album on hiatus

Elton John announced his eye infection to his fans in September, being optimistic. But on November 25, he gave less encouraging news on the set of Good Morning America : “It’s been four months now since I haven’t seen anything [à l’œil droit]and my left eye is not in the best shape »he revealed.

“There's hope that everything will be fine again, but at the moment I'm a bit stuck because I can do something like this interview, but going into the studio and recording, I don't know. I can't even read lyrics”explained the British singer, who is preparing a new album with his lyricist Bernie Taupin.

For the moment, Elton John is focusing on promoting the documentary Never Too Late by RJ Cutler and David Furnish, which traces his beginnings and his 50-year musical career. The film, which follows the singer before his last American concert in November 2022, will be available in France on December 13 on Disney+. Enough to keep his fans waiting before his state of health allows him to return to the studio.
