A dismissal that causes a lot of noise
Last June, comedian and columnist Guillaume Meurice was fired from radio France Inter. A few months earlier, the 43-year-old man was called to an interview with his employer.with a view to a possible disciplinary sanction which could go as far as early termination of his contract for serious misconduct“.
The cause of this conflict? A daring joke, launched by Guillaume Meurice live on the radiodated October 29, 2024. The comedian then described Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “Nazi without a foreskin”.
Pascal Praud makes fun
When Guillaume Meurice's summons was announced, journalist Pascal Praud wanted to give his opinion on the affair. In his show “L’heure des pros”, he then said: “That says a lot about the relationship with his management. It's a provocation. As we imagine that he had been received by Madame Sibyle Veil, it did not necessarily go well. He refused to admit his mistake. He has relationships with his management. Madame Veil must have told him: 'You take me for an imbecile.' Then you fire him. She's right. For once, she shows authority“.
Present around the table that day, columnist Catherine Rambert also declared: “”I find that it's always a failure… Guillaume Meurice has never made me laugh and I find his joke extremely lame. Notwithstanding this, it is still a failure to fire a comedian. It's not the first. This means that there is good humor and bad humor. It bothers me a little. (…) We would have left his failed joke, in very bad taste, no one would talk about it today. He wouldn't even have thought of doing it again!“.
And Pascal Praud agrees: “But if there was the equivalent of a Guillaume Meurice on the right, I wouldn't have any worries. Obviously there isn't one. Guillaume Meurice is not funny. That’s his problem! He sneers! But deep down, I am for total freedom of expression, everywhere, always! But on France Inter, it always goes in the same direction“,

This Sunday, December 1, 2024, Guillaume Meurice was present on the set of the show “C Médiatique”. The opportunity for him to respond to criticism from Pascal Praud : “I watch the replays, I watch in secret. It’s fascinating, it’s a kind of huge dinner for idiots, but only with idiots”.
Reproached by the presenter and ordered not to utter insults, Guillaume Meurice then corrected himself with humor: “I say it affectionately, Pascal is a friend.”
