At 48, Audrey Tautou is back! Not to make cinema but for a completely different artistic project. At 48 years old, the woman who played Amélie Poulain is publishing a photo album this Friday, November 29, entitled “Superficial”. She there “presents personal photographic work developed in parallel with her cinematographic career, and already partly exhibited during the Rencontres de la Photographie de Arles, in 2017. Audrey Tautou has fun with her star status by exploring her image and putting herself -even on stage”. She sometimes had difficulty accepting her image and confided in her relationship to notoriety to our colleagues at Le Parisien.
Audrey Tautou and star status
If she returned to the stage in January 2024, she does not necessarily plan to return to the cinema anytime soon. She opened up about the “star” status and the fact that she hadn’t really anticipated it. “During the filming of 'Amélie Poulain', everyone alerted me to what was likely to happen: Jean-Pierre (Jeunet), Mathieu Kassovitz, Jamel… For me, it was totally abstract. Before, I had done 'Vénus Beauté (Institut)' which was very successful and I had won the César… But with 'Amélie', it (the notoriety) was very sudden and very important”she first detailed.
How do we accept fame?
The actress said that when she walked down the street or entered a restaurant, she preferred not to make eye contact with people. “I always looked down. I have always had good contact with people, but when you are observed, you have the feeling that you are being robbed of a little of your privacy… As I never looked up, It took me years to realize that I needed glasses to see far away!”she remembered with humor. Then continue: “I found it uncomfortable, but I still had a job that I loved, I met great people, wonderful trips, extraordinary and unique experiences… And then, after two or three years, I I'm used to fame”.About her distance from the world of cinema, Audrey Tautou declared: “Besides my work as an actress, I have always had the desire to do many other things. I like taking photos, writing, drawing… I would like to make furniture — I have done a few carpentry courses. I have a creativity that I need to express. I knew that one day this need would prevail.”. The problem? The acting profession takes a lot of time and doesn't leave her enough time to flourish in any other way. “I didn't have the space to develop my projects. When you're in the whirlwind of this job, there are all the requests you have to respond to, all the scripts you have to read, the preparation for filming , post-production, promotion…”she regretted. A statement which could suggest that she will not be back on our screens anytime soon.
