Clara Luciani takes us behind the scenes of her new album “Mon Sang”

“This life”

“It's funny, this song at first I didn't really believe in and then it built layer by layer until it ended up being one of my favorite songs on the album”explained Clara Luciani, “There are two things that saved this song: Sage's brilliant idea of putting violins in, that's what we remember. Then there's the story of the chorus, because there wasn't one at the start.” As producer Sage explains, it was Max Baby who brought the chorus: “The chorus became a sort of bridge at the end thanks to Max Baby, an artist and producer that Pierrick Devin, with whom we made the album, introduced us to. He is a guitarist, pianist, bassist, drummer “He's very talented, he came up with twelve different productions for a single song.” For Clara, “Ce vie” has a very strong heritage of classic French song. “I think we hear it even more on this new album. I really wanted to dust off this style.”

“All for me”

It's a song that almost ended up in the trash, but that was before there were those sumptuous string arrangements. As Sage explains, they composed a lot of songs during the writing phase of this album which was done during Clara's pregnancy : “We knew that time was running out, but it’s true that in the first selection, “Everything for me” was in the trash folder.” For Clara, it is above all a song of universal love: “When we meet our child, we have the impression of falling in love. Each great love we have in life transforms us, and we have the impression that before that, we only existed half, or that something was missing to feel complete These songs were written before I was a mother, but I already felt this wave of love waiting for me.

“My Blood”

Clara Luciani loves the epic side of “Mon Sang”: “It's perhaps the song that most represents this quest for identity that I embarked on when I knew I was expecting a child, because I wanted to tell this little being who I was, and for that, it took a long introspection which can be heard, I believe, through this album, but above all, in this song.”

” Come on “

For Sage, it is the grungiest song on the album, for Clara, it is a highly symbolic song which recounts her beginnings in music, always with the aim of telling this child who was arriving, an important passage of Clara's life: “Everything was possible and I had incredible energy. I sang a lot of things to myself to encourage myself and I think I sang to myself many times: 'Go, go! Anything can happen, when you had to wake up at 5 a.m., put your hair in a bun, put on tights to go to Porte de to act as a hostess in a salon until 8 p.m., then come back and try to make music. I will never forget those years. I don't regret a single second of these years of hardship.”

« Romance »

For Sage, “ Romance » is his favorite song from the album. A title that was written in one go : “It’s a song that was composed, written, recorded in one afternoon, which is quite rare. ». For Clara, it is one of the most instinctive titles she has recorded: “With”Romance“, I find that we have reached a stage of trust, listening and understanding. It's almost intoxicating. Sometimes, I leave the studio, my head is spinning. Honestly, it's the one of my favorite artistic moments.”

“Friendly Sorrow”

Clara Luciani found this verse on guitar at the very beginning of her pregnancy when she was experiencing a friendly disappointment: “It tortured me a lot, and I came to the realization that when you have a heartbreak, there are plenty of songs to take refuge in, but there are few songs that talk about the heartbreak of friendship. Of course, there's “Dear Friend” written by McCartney which never disappoints, but there's no song in French that talks about it.”
