After making a few appearances in public for masses or for causes dear to her heart, Kate Middleton made two appearances this weekend in Great Britain. Along with Prince William and King Charles III, she attended the Festival of Remembrance: her first appearance at a large-scale event in more than 10 months.
Solemn during the ceremonies, dressed in black and the iconic poppy worn by the British royal family for the occasion, the Princess of Wales, who revealed that she completed her chemotherapy just two months ago, was also photographed a broad smile on his lips. But if the photos delighted Internet users, they also earned him particularly brutal criticism.
Kate Middleton, victim of an ageist and sexist remark
On the X platform, journalist and columnist Narinder Kaur asked: “It's a real question: Why has Kate aged so much? Isn't she only 42? Is she a smoker ?That’s the only explanation.” Aberrant comments when we know what the Princess of Wales has been through in recent months: in March 2024, she revealed that she was suffering from cancer, and had started a chemotherapy protocol.
But for the journalist, cancer has nothing to do with all that. Despite messages from Internet users who reminded her of the Princess of Wales' illness, she persisted, saying: “My brother had cancer… He didn't age like that.” A few hours later, and after much criticism, Narinder Kaur finally agreed to offer a semi-apology: “I posted a tweet earlier. A real question about why Kate Middleton had aged so much. (… .) Come to think of it, that was a stupid and insensitive tweet.” A way of phrasing things which proves that she continues to think that the Princess of Wales has aged badly.
Comments already suffered by Kate Middleton
This is not the first time that Prince William's wife has faced criticism for her physical appearance. While she is regularly praised for her elegant style and radiant smile, by November 2023, she had already received sexist and ageist mockery about her physique.
Criticisms which had also taken place during the same event, during which she had suffered an avalanche of negative comments. Internet users did not hesitate to describe Kate Middleton as “tired, old and sad”. “She's aging terribly”, “She's getting really old”, “With all due respect, she's aged 10 in the space of 2 years”.
This appearance was one of the last for Kate Middleton, who announced a few weeks later that she had undergone abdominal surgery, only to finally reveal that she was suffering from cancer. Which makes the criticism of his appearance all the more violent.
