Never two without three. Over the past two months, The Weeknd has released no less than three singles to present his still very mysterious new album “Hurry Up Tomorrow”. The Canadian star brought the 80s back to life on “Dancing In The Flames”, before surrounding himself with rapper Playboi Carti on “Timeless” then Brazilian superstar Anitta on “São Paulo”. If the first single had a mixed start, the second exploded the counts on streaming platforms (172 million plays on Spotify) and the last is following the same path, in just a few days. If the CD and vinyl editions of “Hurry Up Tomorrow” are already available for pre-order, the release date is not known.

“Abel is a visionary”

But at the same time, The Weeknd announces another surprise project: the release of a film “Hurry Up Tomorrow”! As the relay Deadline or Variety, it will be a psychological and musical thriller directed by Trey Edward Shults, behind “Waves” or “It Comes At Night”. The “Take My Breath” singer will be one of the stars of the film, surrounded by two other new movie stars: Barry Keoghan (the sultry “Saltburn”, “The Batman”) and Jenna Ortega, the star of “Wednesday” and “BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice”. The latter will serve as executive producer of the project, in the same capacity as Trey Edward Shults or Michael Rapino, CEO of Live Nation. According to the American media, it will be a “ extension » from The Weeknd's upcoming album.

« Abel is a visionary whose art cannot be limited to a single medium. With “Hurry Up Tomorrow” in partnership with Trey, his musical universe extends to the big screen with a psychological thriller that will offer a new cinematic experience for fans. We are excited to bring it to audiences around the world » rejoices producer Adam Fogelson, from the Lionsgate Motion Picture studio which will distribute the film. At this time, we do not yet know if filming has already taken place. An announcement which is not so unexpected when we know The Weeknd's attraction to cinema through his numerous highly stylized clips (“Blinding Lights”, “In Your Eyes”) and full of references to films from the 80s or 90. And this, even if his experience on the series “The Idol”, with Lily Rose-Depp was surrounded by controversy and very poorly received by the press. Will he be able to raise the level with this thriller? To be continued!
