Benoît Poelvoorde on Trump's re-election: “For me, Donald is a duck and it is therefore difficult to imagine that he is President”

“Donald Trump still said he was going to put an end to wokism.”

If Benoît Poelvoorde assures that tomorrow will not be the day before he gets into politics, is he nevertheless happy with the outcome of this American presidential election? “I don't have much of an opinion… The Americans, it's not my life, it doesn't concern me, he tells us (full interview to be found this Saturday in your DH Week-end). It makes me quite laugh to see people's reactions. This rather amused me. Plus, I'm having trouble sleeping so I've been listening to the whole election.” He sees an exciting side to it all the same. “You look at the forecasts a little. Who planned what? Who said what? Who does what? Everyone has an opinion and it never matches. But I wouldn't be able to say whether it's good or bad that Trump passes. It doesn't concern me.” And added: “But, like our Prime Minister, like Emmanuel Macron, like all leaders, bravo for this victory. Afterwards, we'll see what he does. But, I'll be honest, frankly, I don't care.”

The re-election of Donald Trump, a disaster for the climate? “It could be a very hard blow”

And the star of “The of Being Happy” concludes, seriously: “On the other hand, there is still something I would like to say about our friend Donald. It's hard to imagine that a guy could be named Donald. And be President. No kidding. Because, to me, Donald is a duck. It's Donald Duck. And they are the ones who brought us this cartoon. Donald Duck. How do you talk to a President by saying Donald? I would honestly have a hard time saying, 'Hello Donald.' Vladimir Putin, we would say Vladi or Vladou, he has 17 first names Vladou. But Donald? I don't know what it's called… Dani, Danou? Really, it's a tough first name. Or we simply say: there you go. Wow, there it is, watch out!”
