Arielle Dombasle rejected from a divisive Parisian church because of her outfit

A fervent Catholic, Arielle Dombasle likes to go to churches whenever she can. But his recent visit to a Parisian parish was not easy…

On the plateau of Big Heads from RTL, Arielle Dombasle shared an unexpected anecdote which sparked many reactions. Refused entry to the Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet church, rue des Bernardins in , because of her outfit, she recounted her misadventure.

Arielle Dombasle: an outfit that doesn't fit?

On the set of the show hosted by Laurent Ruquier, sports presenter Yoann Riou unexpectedly called out his friend of the day, Arielle Dombasle “Didn’t you have a problem with a mini-skirt?” he asked her, under the questioning looks of the other members. The actress and singer then confirmed, visibly surprised by her mishap: “I was not allowed into a church yesterday, at 6 p.m. mass.” Laurent Ruquier, curious, asked her why she was there. BHL's wife responded with passion: “But I'm Catholic! And I always go into churches, it's a place where I feel at home.”

That day, however, the entry did not go smoothly for Arielle Dombasle. Three people blocked her way because her skirt was considered too short, and she was only able to enter after putting on a long coat. As a bonus, a “great gentleman” approached her to tell her in an enigmatic and threatening manner: “Do you know who I am?“, before disappearing without further explanation!

Why is the Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet church so special?

The Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet church, in the 5th arrondissement of the capital, is known for its attachment to traditionalist Catholicism. Since its occupation by the Fraternity of Saint Pius X in 1977, it has applied strict rules, both in its religious rituals and in the dress code required of visitors.

Masses are thus celebrated there in Latin, and the faithful must respect a set of conservative values, sometimes perceived as anachronistic. As reported by a survey ofActu.frthis church adored by the extreme right “is illegally occupied by fundamentalists.” Furthermore, as the article points out, “on the door, young women are strongly advised to wear the veil during masses.”
