“I started photography in 1975, at the MJC du Plateau, in Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d’Armor). In 1980: it grew! We were a good group of friends, all passionate about photography and painting. Together, we put together a biennial,” explains Eugène.
Furthermore, married to the same woman for 73 years, without having any children with her (“but wonderful nieces and nephews!”), Eugène had the time to devote himself fully to his passion.
He stopped photographing only four years ago following eye degeneration. But before that, he took photos of it!
Street photos
I took a lot of photos of streets: mainly in Brittany and in the Center of France. I like to take the streets in portrait format rather than landscape. It’s a bit of my trademark, if you can say that…
“And then with friends, sometimes we took photos of young Rennes men and women who wanted books to present. We liked that,” adds the old man.
From film to digital
Eugène experienced the transition from film to digital: “I really liked developing film photos, it was quite a ritual to carry out. But I admit that the arrival of digital technology has made life and wallets much easier for my friends and me,” explains the enthusiast.
The friends were Gérard and Yannick.
Never too late!
And if we ask the photographer what he thinks of this first exhibition, he answers us with humor:
It’s a little late but I’m happy!
So, it’s never too late for anything!
