Prince William will present his Earthshot Prize trophies on Wednesday in South Africa
The highlight of Prince William's trip will be the Earthshot Prize award ceremony. These awards were created by Prince William in 2020, inspired by a trip to Namibia. These awards are the most ambitious in the world among all the awards that exist around the theme. Five prizes are awarded (one among the five categories) to innovative projects providing real environmental solutions. Each prize carries a prize of £1 million.
The first engagement the Prince of Wales attended on Monday was a meeting with young climate activists, who are part of a parallel program run by Earthshot Prize. “Thank you for this welcome to Cape Town,” said Prince William, sharing some photos taken during this first meeting, including a group selfie.
Among the participants, we could see South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha, who will present the ceremony on Wednesday. The actress has a career in the United States but remains committed to her country and the development of Africa. “I already feel inspired after this afternoon among the members of the youth program”assured the Prince of Wales after the meeting. Prince William travels alone. His wife Catherine, who is still recovering despite the end of her chemotherapy for cancer, is not able to accompany him.
