Armand “Mondo” Duplantis is undoubtedly one of the leading figures in world athletics, and last season was particularly eventful for him. Holder of the world record in the pole vault, which he beat several times, the Swede lit up the Paris Olympic Games by winning the gold medal, clearing a bar at 6.25 meters. Three weeks later, he still surpassed his own record reaching 6.26 meters. But outside the stadiums, the pole vaulter also made an impression with his incredible marriage proposal!

Enjoying a photo session organized by Vogue Scandinavia edition on a beach in the Hamptons, the 24-year-old young man surprised his partner, Desiré Inglandergetting down on one knee to propose to her. An intimate moment immortalized by the lens, which did not fail to get people talking. Especially since the young woman, model and influencer, had no idea of her companion’s intentions. “When he first knelt, Inglander thought it was a gesture for the photoshoot”revealed our colleagues from Vogue on their social networks. “It was only when he took out the box containing the ring that she realized what was happening!”

If Armand Duplantis is used to managing pressure on the slopes, this moment was, by his own admission, much more stressful than any competition. “I can honestly say that This is the time of my life when I was the most nervous (…) I was more nervous than at the Olympic Games”he confided afterwards. This request, which must have been a magical moment, also put the pole vaulter’s nerves to the test. He even admits to having almost ruined everything during the crucial moment: “I had a few sentences in mind, but I lost my words. I was completely prostrate.”
Fortunately, the marriage proposal was immediately accepted by his beloved, very touched by romance which he demonstrated. The couple, who have not left each other since 2020, will therefore quickly get down to preparations for the ceremony. An event that Armand Duplantis and his 23-year-old fiancée are awaiting with great enthusiasm.
