A life like a novel
Lætitia Casta bursts out with silvery laughter when we list her multiple metamorphoses. “Transformation is the summary of my life!” A life that seems like a novel, from the first exhibition scene – the Miss Lumio competition, in Corsica, where she is spotted by an agent – to the magical climax: hand in hand with Yves Saint Laurent to sing to her My most beautiful love storyin a duo with Catherine Deneuve, at her last fashion show in 2002; perched on a piano as Brigitte Bardot in the film Gainsbourg (heroic life) in 2010; alone on stage at the theater recounting the tormented existence of the genius pianist, Clara Haskil, in 2021.
A novel all the more enjoyable because it shuts its mouth to the bitter oracles of fashion who judged it too outside the canons to succeed; to those in the theater and cinema who said that a model could not interpret. But who says novel says author, and if Lætitia Casta often hid her dreams “for fear that they would not come true”, it was she who made them come true, thanks to a taste for work and an obstinate will.
