our exclusive photo session with Lætitia Casta

EXCLUSIVE – Going through appearances and transfiguring yourself… For this fashion shoot Madame Figaroa nod to pop art, the actress lends herself to an arty performance.

Observe Lætitia Casta during this photo shoot organized for Madame Figaro, it means following an accelerated dual-course training course on self-confidence and humility. And marvel that these two qualities, often opposed, can on the contrary perfectly agree. From the side of the lit mirrors of the dressing room, it is a small fluted voice, which we can barely hear, which only opposes shyness and good humor to the endless hours of hair and makeup. On the side of the set, facing the photographer’s lens, the discreet suddenly explodes with an extraordinary magnetism.

Few effects – the chin raised, a slight arch, the knee pointed forward – but a natural art of movement, a subtle mixture of restraint and joyful abandon from which we cannot take our eyes off. Who other than the actress, model, director could have better embodied our theme of metamorphosis? Since her debut in fashion, at the age of 14, she has continued to transform: from a teenager from a modest background to the muse of great couturiers; from international top model to César-nominated actress; symbol of the Republic, Marianne of the year 2000, as a mother of four children; from the muse of perfumes and jewelry to a director now preparing her first feature film…

A life like a novel

Lætitia Casta bursts out with silvery laughter when we list her multiple metamorphoses. “Transformation is the summary of my life!” A life that seems like a novel, from the first exhibition scene – the Miss Lumio competition, in Corsica, where she is spotted by an agent – to the magical climax: hand in hand with Yves Saint Laurent to sing to her My most beautiful love storyin a duo with Catherine Deneuve, at her last fashion show in 2002; perched on a piano as Brigitte Bardot in the film Gainsbourg (heroic life) in 2010; alone on stage at the theater recounting the tormented existence of the genius pianist, Clara Haskil, in 2021.

A novel all the more enjoyable because it shuts its mouth to the bitter oracles of fashion who judged it too outside the canons to succeed; to those in the theater and cinema who said that a model could not interpret. But who says novel says author, and if Lætitia Casta often hid her dreams “for fear that they would not come true”, it was she who made them come true, thanks to a taste for work and an obstinate will. Between two physical metamorphoses for our photographic series, she agrees to look back on the transformations, both public and intimate, which have marked her life and continue to be its driving force.
