“It takes enormous courage to take on large media organizations like this, and incredible tenacity to prevail,” writes Charles Spencer, Prince Harry’s uncle, on his Instagram page. After five long years of legal proceedings, the son of Lady Diana, the Princess of Hearts, can finally lay down his arms. He got justice, the justice he expected: a public apology. It took only two days of waiting and a financial agreement for the prince to receive a message from the NGN group, recognizing his wrongs and offering damages.
“NGN apologizes to the Duke for the impact the continued coverage of his private life and that of his late mother, Princess Diana, had on him, particularly during her younger years. We accept and apologize for the distress caused to the Duke, and the repercussions on his relationships, his friendships and his family ties, and we have agreed to pay him damages accordingly (…)”, they wrote in a long letter addressed to him .
Diana ‘would be immensely touched’
“It’s wonderful that Harry has also secured an apology for his mother – she would be immensely touched by this, I’m sure, and rightly proud too. Congratulations,” his uncle enthused. The Duke of Sussex’s relationship with the press has always been difficult. In his youth he witnessed their intrusion into his mother’s life almost daily. Protecting your family has become a priority. A real fight.
