The announcement was made on the group’s social networks on Tuesday afternoon.
“Today we sadly say goodbye to Garth “Honey Boy” Hudson, the last remaining original member of the group. A musical genius and cornerstone of the group’s unique sound,” we can read in a post on Instagram.
“Garth once said ‘I find joy in helping people feel their emotions deep within themselves.’ Through his music, that’s what he was doing, he was helping us all connect to something bigger. Rest easy Garth.”
Multi-instrumentalist, Garth Hudson was born on August 2, 1937 in Windsor, Ontario.
-He is considered by many to be the originator of the sound of the band he formed with Robbie Robertson, Richard Manuel, Levon Helm and Rick Danko.
We owe to this group, active from the late 60s to the late 70s, songs like “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”, “The Weight” and “Up on Cripple Creek”.
“The Band” is also known for the musical documentary “The Last Waltz” directed by Martin Scorsese and released in 1978.
