Naomi Watts, Marion Cotillard, Hugh Jackman, Isabella Rossellini, Moby: celebrities react to the death of the great filmmaker David Lynch

The news of the death of famous American director David Lynn at the age of 78 on Thursday has left many celebrities shocked and grieving. Here are seven stars who paid tribute to the director of Twin Peaks et Mulholland Drive.

Naomi Watts

The star actress of the film Mulholland Drive published souvenir photos and delivered a long and moving tribute to his “friend Dave” on his Instagram account. “My heart is broken. The world will no longer be the same without him. His creative mentorship has been truly powerful. He made me known,” she wrote, among other things.

“I can’t believe he’s gone. I’m in pieces, but I will be forever grateful for our friendship. I shout into the megaphone: Have a safe trip, Buddy Dave! Thanks for everything. –Buttercup”

Isabella Rossellini

“I loved him so much. Thank you for all your kind messages,” wrote Italian actress Isabella Rossellini, who starred in several of the filmmaker’s films, including Sailor et Lula, in 1990, Palme d’Or at the Film Festival. The two artists were even a couple in the late 80s.

Kyle MacLachlan

Kyle MacLachlan, who we saw in Dune, Twin Peaks et Blue Velvet, also took to Instagram to deliver a long and moving message to his late friend.

“I owe my entire career, and my life in fact, to his vision. While the world has lost a remarkable artist, I have lost a dear friend who imagined a future for me and allowed me to travel to worlds I could never have conceived on my own,” writes- he.

“I will miss him more than the limits of my language can say and my heart can bear. My world is all the more full because I knew him and all the emptier now that he is gone. David, I remain forever changed and forever your Kale. Thank you for everything,” adds the actor.

Hugh Jackman

“The loss of David Lynch is immense. An incredible artist, filmmaker, philanthropist and mind. His work at the David Lynch Foundation is an inspiration to my life. I will continue to carry the flame as best I can. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” actor Hugh Jackman wrote in a fleeting post on Instagram.


Marion Cotillard

“Oh, I’m so sad. I’m so grateful that our paths crossed and that I had the chance to be filmed by you. Being by your side was like being in connection with such a deep place in the heart and soul. I wish you a wonderful trip David,” wrote French actress Marion Cotillard, who shot for David Lynch in a medium-length film for Dior in 2010, Lady Blue Shanghai.

Moby

“I am heartbroken. Rest in peace, dear friend,” wrote musician Moby on Facebook in the caption of a photo of him in the company of his great filmmaker friend, with whom he collaborated on various projects.

Singer Richard Marx posted a fun nod to the late filmmaker with this fleeting Instagram post.
