A hacker managed to trace the fake Brad Pitt who scammed Anne out of 830,000 euros. He lives in Nigeria and has made at least 34 victims under this false identity.
Double sentence for Anne, a 54-year-old French woman who was scammed out of 830,000 euros by a crook who pretended to be the American actor Brad Pitt, who is now the target of international mockery for her gullibility since the report published in the program “Sept à Huit”. TF1 decided to withdraw the report following the wave of cyberharassment towards the victim.
The “grazer” who managed to extort 830,000 euros from Anne was found in Nigeria thanks to the founder of the site Find My Scammer, who agreed to help the fifty-year-old free of charge. Marwan Ouarab explained to our colleagues from 20 Minutes that the grazer was trapped in his own game: “We sent him a trapped link disguised as a message, and by clicking on it he unknowingly gave us access to his phone”.
He's now pretending to be… Keanu Reeves
The identity of the scammer was then discovered, along with an address in Nigeria from which he was operating. And not alone. “It’s a small group, of three or four fairly young people, who are causing damage. On the fake Brad Pitt’s device alone, we counted 34 victims.”
Bad news for Anne's money, it was quickly invested, notably in cryptocurrency wallets. Although the identity of the group has been traced, this does not prevent them from still being active. “Except that the group is now pretending to be Keanu Reeves”, another American film star revealed in the “Matrix” saga. Without action from the Nigerian justice system or an arrest warrant from Interpol, the group of grazers would have to continue to live happily ever after and usurp the identity of their choice.
Brad Pitt reacts
Faced with the scale of the situation, widely publicized in France and which is now making the rounds in the United States, Brad Pitt's communications department reacted, expressing that the actor was not present on social networks, and Therefore, you should not take messages sent in your name seriously. “It’s terrible that scammers are taking advantage of fans’ strong connection to celebrities, but it’s an important reminder not to respond to unsolicited online solicitations.”
