“It freaks me out”: Dominic Arpin’s family victim of a ploy imitating his daughter’s voice

Host Dominic Arpin has been in shock since criminals tried to defraud his parents using his own daughter’s voice.

The latter, who first told the story in an ephemeral publication made Tuesday on the social network Instagram, said he was still “very angry” during an interview with LCN.

“It was my mother who called me this morning in a panic because she said she had received a call from my daughter, her granddaughter, who was in prison because she had just hit a pedestrian [en voiture]“, he explained.

The star of the show The crinqués claimed that “the person was crying” and “asking for help to get out of jail.”

“They obviously put a lot of pressure on the person. They create a state of anxiety and stress. My mother is 90 years old, and she reacted well,” he stressed.

“She just said, ‘I can’t help you, call your dad.’ […] [Ma mère] immediately called me to say “did I do the right thing? Is it perhaps true that an accident happened to your daughter, to our granddaughter?” I called my daughter, made sure everything was okay,” he continued.

Call for vigilance

Following his testimony on Instagram, several Internet users admitted to having experienced the same thing, according to Mr. Arpin.

“I am overwhelmed, and I weigh my words carefully, with messages from people who have experienced the same thing, who know someone around them who has experienced the same thing. And each time, what I am told is that the person’s voice resembles the voice of a loved one, a great-nephew, a great-niece, a granddaughter,” he said. he reported.

With the evolution of artificial intelligence, this type of fraud risks entering “a new era”.

“It takes a few parts of a sentence to recreate a voice. Was it really my daughter’s voice or was my mother fooled because the person was crying? […] It was credible enough for her to be convinced that it was my daughter,” he said.

“They really know their potential victims, they know some of the family history. And that freaks me out,” he added.
