On December 31, 2023, Queen Margrethe II of Danemak delivered her traditional New Year’s speech on television. The speech being live, no one knew that she would announce her upcoming abdication. The abdication took place two weeks later, on January 14, 2024, his 52nd reign. Her own father, King Frederick IX, died on January 14, 1972, and she succeeded him on that date.

This January 14, 2025, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the reign of King Frederik X, the Royal House shared a series of photos taken during this historic day. These “snapshots” show the new king without filter, a little stressed, who puts on his new uniform as head of the army at home at the Frederick VIII palace in Amalienborg. We then see him putting on his gloves before heading to Christansborg Castle to make his first appearance on the balcony.
