This is an announcement that may worry dubbing professionals. On Friday January 10, 2025, Variety magazine revealed that two start-ups, Lumiere Ventures and ElevenLabs, had used artificial intelligence to recreate the French voice of American comedian Sylvester Stallone for the action film Armor, scheduled for Prime Video in March 2025. This voice is that of actor Alain Dorval, who died in February. According to the American magazine, Alain Dorval’s family had supported this idea, starting with Aurore Bergé, the Minister Delegate in charge of Equality between Women and Men and the Fight against Discrimination, his daughter. “We wanted to do something that honored my father’s craft and legacy,” she said in a statement published by Variety, before adding: “There is a fundamental difference between artificially creating a new voice – and my father was firmly opposed to it – and to bring back to life an actor whose voice is deeply anchored in our collective imagination.”
After the release of the trailer for this feature film, a controversy arose on social networks. Many people have complained about this use of AI. The minister of François Bayrou’s government then wanted to put things straight: “I gave my agreement for a test. Only a test.
