CINEMA – Creating voices out of nowhere thanks to artificial intelligence is no, but bringing a missing voice back to life is yes. Sylvester Stallone stars in the film Armorscheduled for Amazon Prime in March 2025 in France and already available in the United States since last November. For his release in France, the actor will keep his emblematic French voice, that of Alain Dorval, although he died on February 13, 2024.
This is possible thanks to the use of artificial intelligence, the use of which is nevertheless criticized in the world of cinema and especially by professional dubbers who are afraid that their profession will disappear.
But Alain Dorval’s family supported this idea. The Minister of Equality between Women and Men, Aurore Bergé, is the daughter of the voice actor. “ We wanted to do something that honored my father’s craft and legacy.”she declared in a press release, cited by Variety.
“There is a fundamental difference between artificially creating a new voice – and my father was strongly opposed to this – and bringing back to life an actor whose voice is deeply anchored in our collective imagination,” she justified.
« Honor tradition »
Thus, a partnership was created between the licensing start-up Lumiere Ventures and the AI dubbing start-up ElevenLabs to recreate the voice of the man who was Sylvester Stallone’s French dubber for 50 years.

“Recreating Alain Dorval’s voice is an opportunity to show how technology can honor tradition while creating new possibilities in film production”said Mati Staniszewski, CEO of ElevenLabs which can today support 32 different languages.
But he assures us: even if his AI can be used in various sectors, notably that of entertainment, “ it does not replace the magic of human creativity, it opens new doors for it.”
