It’s a speech that makes a lot of noise. Grandson of Jane Birkin, Roman de Kermadec decided to speak out almost a year and a half after the death of Serge Gainsbourg’s former partner, who had a close relationship with the latter. “We were more than close. We saw each other very often. She was like a second mother to me when mine left,” tell Gala this Thursday the son of Kate Barry, who died on December 11, 2013 at only 46 years old, before adding: “She never gave up on me, even in difficult times. The day she left, we were supposed to have lunch together.”

For Jane Birkin’s grandson, the disappearance of his mother Kate Barry is “not accidental”, as he assures our colleagues and the 37-year-old young man is convinced of it. Kate Barry died after falling from the fourth floor of her apartment, located in the 16th arrondissement of , and her death was a huge shock for the whole family. “We will never know. That day, I was filming and I felt really bad, as if I had sensed that something was happening… I went home and I got this famous phone call…”says the man who became a father for the first time last year.

A documentary on Kate Barry that doesn’t come to fruition

After the death of his mother, Roman de Kermadec decided to pay tribute to her through a film project, as revealed Gala. “My grandmother was supposed to do the voiceover but she left too soon. I don’t know yet if this documentary will see the light of day…”says Jane Birkin’s grandson, who fell into drugs like his mother. Despite this project still on hold, a new exhibition, Interstices: Kate Barry and the landscapewill open soon at the Pavillon Carré de Baudoin, in Paris. Enough to delight his son, who wishes to do the same. “It’s my heritage and I must bring it back to life through these exhibitions. His work really deserves to be seen by as many people as possible. As long as I’m here, I’ll do it the best I can. Three photos taken by Charlotte’s mother, Lou and my grandmother were recently auctioned for the Foch Foundation”he says.
