CULTURE – A character from the small screen has left. A figure in French gastronomy on television, culinary columnist and host Jean-Luc Petitrenaud died this Friday, January 10 at the age of 74, as his children told AFP.

He died “surrounded by loved ones”said with emotion his children Louise and Antonin Petitrenaud, who “thank the people who loved him so much during these years”

A figure on French television, it was on the radio that Jean-Luc Petitrenaud began delivering his gastronomic reviews for Radio , before being entrusted with a column on Radio Suisse Normande, truly launching his career on the radio waves before ‘appear on the small screen.

Since then, he has played a number of television and radio programs based on food and good meals, with Great Gourmands on France 3, Gourmet postcard on France 5 or The Sunday Bistro on Europe 1. Without forgetting The Escapades of Petitrenaudstill on France 5, from September 2010.

Ambassador of local cuisine

In 2017, after 9 seasons to present The Escapades of Petitrenaudhe walked away from the air to take a break following what he called “a bit of fatigue”. A period of withdrawal which nevertheless allowed him to write his novel The four seasons of Émile and Marcel. During this time, he had been replaced by Carinne Teyssandier at the presentation of the show. Then, in 2019 when he was thinking of taking back control of the show, he learned that France 5 was finally putting an end to it.

For his work and his role in popularizing French gastronomy – particularly local cuisine – he was thanked in 2004 by President Jacques Chirac, who then awarded him the title of Knight of the Legion of Honor.

Jean-Luc Petitrenaud was also known for his books and culinary guides, including The France of snacks, Greedy pedestrian or even Gourmet postcard.
