The SNEP has delivered its verdict. For the second year in a row, Werenoi is the biggest seller of the year thanks to “Pyramide”, sold 276,000 copies. The rapper sits at the top of the top 10 best-selling albums of 2024 in France, made up of revelations (Pierre Garnier, Zaho de Sagazan), big hip-hop names (SDM, Jul) and sure values of French and international pop (Indochine, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish). Despite this eclectic lead pack, other renowned artists have had more difficulty convincing. This is particularly the case of two very popular pop-rock groups: Coldplay and Imagine Dragons. Thrilling the crowds and regulars at the top, the two groups have barely attracted more than 50,000 buyers with “Moon Music” and “Loom”, despite the radio success of the singles “We Pray” or “Eyes Closed”. Without being a disaster, these two albums have not generated a strong following since their release.

Soprano, Jean-Louis Aubert or Amir disappoint
Same for Soprano : his album “Freedom”, more rap and political, only motivated 45,000 curious people. A barely decent score but far from its predecessors which sold between 300,000 and a million copies. One of the poor performances of the year is signed… Jul! With the Marseille collective “13’Organisé 2”, the solo hit has not repeated the enormous success of the first part published in 2020: only 41,000 fans responded, notably thanks to streaming, compared to more than 200,000 for its predecessor. Another major comeback, Jean-Louis Aubert ends the year on a timid note: “Pafini” accumulates 36,000 sales, below expectations after the 150,000 purchases of his previous record, “Refuge”. But the rocker will undoubtedly be able to make up for it with his tour, which will stop at Paris La Défense Arena in December 2025, for his 50th career.
These international stars no longer seduce
Behind, Eminem et Calogero are neck and neck: the American rapper and the French musician each sold a little less than 35,000 copies of “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de grace)” and “X”, again far from their usual scores. Returned after 17 years of absence, Manu Chao is no longer as successful as before with only 25,000 curious people at the meeting for “Viva Tu”. Amir is experiencing the same setback: if “Sommet” was on repeat during the Olympics, his latest album “C amir” is struggling to convince with just 20,000 sales. But his new single “Complémentaires” could well reverse the trend. Below, Jérémy Frérot, MC Solaar and the musical “Molière, the urban opera” attracted less than 20,000 fans, while Sia is struggling.
The great success of “Gimme Love” (number one on the radio for 11 weeks) did not benefit her album “Reasonnable Woman”, which has 12,000 sales in France. Shakira is in the same situation: despite the global hits “Te Felicito”, “TQG” with Karol G or “BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53”, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” does not reach 20,000 purchases. On their side, Thomas Dutronc (“It’s never too late”), Marc Lavoine (“Revolver”) and Lady Gaga (“Harlequin” for the film “Joker: Folie à deux”) are just above 10,000 checkouts. Same for Lenny Kravitz : although adored by the French public, the rocker has difficulty convincing in the stores with a little more than 10,000 faithful having bought or listened to “Blue Electric Light”, released without much promotion or locomotive single. Finally, three pop stars have experienced very complicated comebacks, in France as in the rest of the world: with “143”, “Everything I Thought It Was” and “Shawn”, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake and Shawn Mendes display commercial disasters with only 5,000 sales in our territory.
