Unexpected confidences. During an episode of Drew Barrymore Show broadcast this Tuesday, January 7, 2024, Drew Barrymore asked Lisa Kudrow a question regarding a theft on the set of Friends.
In front of the cameras, the 61-year-old actress did admit to having stolen something, but preferred to keep the item a secret. This confession then led the host to question her guest about the fate of the famous cookie jar emblematic of the series.
A note from Matthew Perry found in a cookie jar
Moved, the interpreter of Phoebe Buffay revealed that Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing, had offered her this pot at the end of filming the last episode. She then explained that she had just discovered that her comrade, who died on October 28, 2023 at the age of 54, had left her a note inside.
“I recently found a note he wrote for me“, she said before adding: “I hadn’t opened it or looked inside. But yes, he did it. There was a word in there and I had forgotten it. Timing is everything.“
This is not the first time that Lisa Kudrow has mentioned this “gift” in an interview. In 2020, it’s on the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live that the actress had talked about Cookie’s pot. A symbolic object in that, after almost 10 years of filming, the actors were particularly upset. “We were laughing hysterically and crying, because it was the end“, she remembered.
A symbolic gift for the Friends actress
According to our colleagues at the magazine People, Matthew Perry gave the cookie jar to Lisa Kudrow in tribute to a memorable scene from the first episodes of Friends. In it, the actress realized she didn’t have a watch for a scene in which she needed one.
In a moment of improvisation, she had referred to the cookie jar as if it were a clock. This spontaneous gesture has become a cult moment.
One thing is certain, it is a testament to their complicity and the impact that Friends had on their lives, well beyond the film set.
