Increasingly rich in a world that is far from being in its best shape. The annual ranking of the famous Forbes magazine will not make many happy but at least it will make the “caste” of billionaires (in dollars), a very special species, since it prospers when Humanity goes further. worse. We learned in this report that there were even more of these billionaires last year, 141 more than in 2023. A new record of 2,781 big fortunes, which will certainly be broken at the end of this year. And yes, that’s how the world is…or rather it’s not.
To what do these gentlemen/ladies owe this exponential increase in their bank accounts? On the stock markets, thanks to them their overall fortune swelled by 2,000 billion dollars to reach 14,200 billion dollars. Note that 2/3 of billionaires have “enriched» in 2024 while 1/4 of them have “impoverished“. You will have understood that the term “impoverished» is very overrated, they still have a bunch of billions under their belt, it’s just their pride that has taken a little hit in front of their friends.
As usual, the USA is at the top of the basket with 813 billionaires; China defends itself well but has almost half as many, 473 exactly; India, the 5th largest economic power in the world, has 200. In detail and according to the daily counts from the Bloomberg agency, Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX and Tesla (among other properties), is by far the most wealthy people on the planet, with personal assets valued at $452 billion as of December 30, 2024. This is a jump of 223 billion over one year and we predict a staggering level in the near future.
After Musk comes Jeff Bezos (Amazon), whose fortune is estimated at $243 billion, an annual increase of $66 billion; then there is Mark Zuckerberg, the architect of Facebook with his 212 billion dollars, +84 billion over one year. Then there is Larry Ellison (Oracle) with 190 billion dollars. The French Bernard Arnault (LVMH) completes the TOP 5 in the world with a fortune estimated at 178 billion dollars, he lost 29.8 billion over one year but he is certainly not to be pitied.
Among the 10 richest people on the planet, 9 are of American nationality, 8 of whom have prospered in new technologies. In the world’s TOP 20 billionaires, 14 are Americans and there are 2 Frenchmen, Bernard Arnault and Françoise Bettencourt Meyers of L’Oréal, with 75.5 billion dollars. Then we have two Indians, Mukesh Ambani (Reliance Industries, $91.3 billion) and Gautam Adani (Adani Group, $76.6 billion). Then come the Spaniard Amancio Ortega (Zara, 102 billion) and the Mexican Carlos Slim (Grupo Carso, 81.8 billion)…
Finally, with a personal fortune of $55.1 billion, Zhong Shanshan, founder of the beverage company Nongfu Spring, is the richest Chinese and the 24th in the world. See you in 2026 with even more stratospheric fortunes, no doubt.
