He sang for the last time on stage this Saturday, December 21 to close his tour. At 72, Renaud is having difficulty finding his voice. But he always seems to see the glass half full. The artist looks back on his past addictions and his fans who support him despite his voice going off the rails.
This Saturday, December 21, Renaud took the stage for the last concert of his tour which began in January 2023, almost two years ago. Before saying goodbye to his audience – but not goodbye – the 72-year-old artist gave an interview to our colleagues at Parisianpublished in the pages of this Monday, December 23 of the national daily. If he says to himself “No way“tired because he is”gets up at 6 a.m. every morning” – “It's me who wakes up Bloodi and Pierre (his two assistants). These lazy people get up at 8 o'clock“, he explains, laughing – Lolita's father is not without ignoring the criticisms of those who doubted his ability to return to the stage. Cerise's husband therefore gave his feelings on these bad tongues while evoking his voice – which he struggles to find – and his addictions – now distant.
“I picked up“: Renaud looks back on his past addictions and what remains of them
“They should have turned their tongues in their mouths seven times. I never doubted. From the first rehearsals, I knew that musically it was going to work with these magnificent strings (five violinists, a cellist, a guitarist, a pianist and an accordionist accompanied him)“, explains Renaud before discussing his physical form, he who confides that he never doubted that he could physically meet the challenge of this tour. “I was afraid of catching bronchitis, tonsillitis or the flu but I have never had one in fifty years. I had a little bronchitis, I had to cancel two dates, that had never happened to me. I gave up alcohol three and a half years ago and cigarettes a year and nine months ago. I smoke one cigarette a month. The next one is January 10“, he explained.
“People support“: Renaud talks about his voice problems in concert and the support of his fans
“But the voice?“, insist our colleagues from Parisian. “People support it. They sing with me. I rehearse before all my concerts, between six and ten songs. And despite everything, it's quite difficult. But hey, I'm getting there“, replies Renaud. Married to Cerise since May 2024, he confides having experienced a moment “unforgettable. The happiest day of my life. So much love! My little wife and all my friendsGauvain Sers, Jean-Paul Rouve, Vianney…“. And to our colleagues who ask him what Cerise has changed in his life, Renaud replies: “She changed everything“.
