At 73, François Bayrou has just been appointed Prime Minister by Emmanuel Macron, succeeding Michel Barnier. Among his strongest supporters, his wife Elisabeth, whom he has known forever.
At the beginning of the 1970s, on the benches of Bordeaux Montaigne University, François Bayrou's eyes met those of Elisabeth Perlant. Barely five months later and at only twenty years old, the two khâgneux got married. If they are both destined for a career in teaching, it is only “Babeth” who will persist in this path. For his part, although he studied classics, François quickly turned to politics.
François Bayrou's ambition will push his couple into the spotlight on numerous occasions. Like his wife Elisabeth, the politician has never appreciated this media spotlight and only confides on rare occasions about his private and family life.

A large family subscribed to successes
A year after their wedding, François and Elisabeth Bayrou were barely over twenty when they became parents for the first time. Hélène, born in 1972, is now 52 years old and has followed her mother's path by becoming a khâgne teacher. The following year the couple celebrated the birth of Marie. The youngest is now 51 years old and is a polytechnician.

In 1977, a third daughter joined the Bayrou clan. At 47, Dominique is a doctor. After this new birth, Elisabeth Bayrou put aside her job to concentrate on her family and the education of her daughters. Five years later in 1982, Calixte was born, 42 years old who opted for a career as a veterinarian.
The last two children of the clan were born in 1986 and 1988. Agnès (38 years old) chose the path of teaching like her parents, however moving towards political philosophy, as for André (36 years old), the last born and only boy, he decided to go to normal school, now teaching at the Sorbonne Nouvelle.

François and Elisabeth Bayrou, the happy grandparents
At the head of such a large family, the Bayrou couple quickly became young grandparents. Like their father, the six children are very discreet and modest when it comes to their private lives. At 73 years old, the new Prime Minister is the grandfather of no less than twenty-one grandchildren.
Back in Matignon, François Bayrou will necessarily see his schedule become heavier, reducing the opportunities to meet up with family in his Béarnaise country house.
