It was in May 2022 that Yannick Alléno lost Antoine Alléno, his son, also a cook. The young man who was traveling on his scooter was violently hit by a car behind the wheel of a man already well known to the police. Drunk and under the influence of drugs, the motorist gave Antoine Alléno no chance to escape since he unfortunately died on the spot… Last April, in the Media Culture program on Europe 1, Yannick Alléno returned to this terrible tragedy. “We are unprepared for this kind of thingI wouldn't wish it on anyone. It’s a flood of very painful administrative procedures. Going to the morgue to see your kid, preparing the funeral, receiving people… Everything collapses”he admitted. While the trial began in October 2024, Thursday, November 28, the verdict of the driver tried for aggravated manslaughter at the Paris Criminal Court fell. He was sentenced to seven years in prison for the young man's death as well as its “risky behavior multiplied in a reckless manner”.
Following this verdict, the chef contented himself with a publication on Instagram under which he wrote: “Even on nights when you want to scream, show must go on for him! For everyone else! Those who remain”. It is also in this sense that Yannick Alléno decided to end his restaurant Father & Son which he opened in the 7th arrondissement of Paris with his son. As reported by our colleagues from Parisian the multi-starred chef has somehow decided to turn the page to try to move forward. Instead of the restaurant opened with Antoine, he chose to inaugurate his Japanese tapas bar in Beaupassage at the end of November. “Passionate about Japan for more than thirty years, the chef of L'Abysse (8th arrondissement), a two-star sushi counter, wanted to reveal other facets of Japanese cuisine. This new restaurant is called Izakaya Dassai, in homage to these traditional Japanese bars, particularly lively in the evening, where you drink sake around small plates filled with Japanese specialties.”detailed our colleagues.
A painful loss
If the death of Antoine Alléno was painful for his family, it was also painful for his friends. Anisa Usmanova, her best friend and former work colleague, wrote a long message following the announcement of the driver's conviction to express her anger. “I'm still looking for the right words since October 31 – the day of the trial. And even today after the judge announced the verdict… I can't find them. I'm angry. And I don't want to be. I want to stop this burning feeling in my chest, but it's so unfair. I'm not a lawyer, I'm not a judge, I don't know the laws as well as they do, but I'm hurt“she began by writing.
And to add: “We lost Antoine. An innocent human being was killed. We went through a nightmare. It's still there, 2 and a half years later, it still hurts. I have nightmares all the time at night. 7 years old. 7 years for stealing the car with violence and without a driving license, drunk, for almost injuring several people on the road, speeding up to 120km/h… and killing Antoine. Almost killing myself (I honestly don't understand how I survived). And then… trying to flee the crime scene. Twice. 7 years old. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm a human who lost his best friend.”.
