In an interview with the American edition of the magazine Marie Clairethe Duchess of Sussex shared some secrets about the end-of-year celebrations with her children and their surprise guests.
Thanksgiving takes place this Thursday, November 28 in the United States, and since their move in 2020, the Sussexes have not failed to celebrate it. “I love the end of year holidays, they are better every year,” said Meghan Markle in an interview given to the American edition of the magazine Marie Claire November 22. And there is no question for the most British family in California to deviate from American traditions. Prince Harry's wife stressed that she wanted their two children, Archie (5 years old) and Lilibet (3 years old), to experience the “magic” of traditions. On the program therefore, cook “good recipes” at Thanksgiving, and prepare “carrots for the reindeer” at Christmas. But that's not all.
A friend “without family”
Meghan Markle mentioned another tradition that she says she values. “Like many of us, I think you always make sure there's room at the table for your friends who don't have family, which is really essential,” she told Marie Claire. The equivalent of “the poor man’s place” in France, which consists of adding a plate to the table to welcome someone in need. Except that among the Sussexes, surprise guests have prestige. The duchess thus revealed that Gloria Steinem “came for Thanksgiving” in 2023.
A friendship around feminism
The two women have known each other for several years. In August 2020, Meghan Markle and the famous American feminist activist were filmed discussing racism and sexism in the garden of the Sussexes' house. Gloria Steinem, then aged 86, even gave Meghan a bracelet on which it was written: “Linked not ranked” (in French: “Relié, pas hierarchisé”). Which celebrity will be the Sussexes' guest this year?
