After playing Dr. Mark Sloan for six seasons of Grey’s Anatomybetween 2006 and 2012, actor Eric Dane, among other things, returned to the reasons for his departure from the medical series. He notably mentioned his addiction problems.

In an interview with the podcast the Armchair Expertthe American comedian Eric Danea time in a relationship with an actress from Charmedspoke about his departure from the series Grey’s Anatomy in 2012. The 51-year-old actor lent his features to the character of Dr Mark Sloan for six seasons starting in 2006. This protagonist – also nicknamed Dr. Glamour – was the main rival of Dr. Derek Shepherd or Dr. Mamour, played by Patrick Dempsey. Mark Sloan ended up dying at the beginning of season 9, shortly after the death of his sweetheart Lexie at the end of season 8 in a plane crash.

They didn’t break up with me because of that, although it obviously didn’t help.“The comedian spoke of financial reasons: “I was starting to become – like most of the actors who had been on the show for a long time – very expensive for the network.“And to add: “I wasn’t the same guy they hired, so I understood when I got let go and Shonda Rhimes was great.“The latter, creator of the medical series,”protected us fiercely. She protected us publicly, but also in private life… I love Shonda Rhimes and she protected me but I probably got fired. It wasn’t done in a ceremonial way like ‘You’re fired,’ but more like ‘You’re not coming back.’

Also in the same interview, Eric Dane revealed that when he joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomyhe had been sober since “three or four years“But he suffered a relapse during the writers’ strike in the United States in 2007.”If you take the whole time I was on Grey’s Anatomy, I was more torn than sober and that’s when things started to go wrong for me.
