Bernard Campan talks about the adoption of his son

Very discreet about his private life, Bernard Campan rarely talks about his children. If his daughter, Nina followed in his footsteps by becoming an actress and singer, his son is more in the shadows. The actor returned to the adoption of the latter, almost 26 years ago, a moving moment. The moment I was most moved was perhaps the moment my wife and I adopted our child. We went, as they say, to look for him in Vietnam and that day was very powerful for Anne and for me. The meeting with this child who becomes our child“, he begins. At the time, his son was four and a half months old. “It was one of the last family-to-family adoptions, which no longer exists. That is to say that we, as a family, went to see a family who could no longer keep their child, so it was also a struggle. When we go to an orphanage to take in a little orphan, we have the impression of saving him a little and there, it is inevitably also a tear for the family who can no longer keep this child but who would like to keep him in the ‘absolute“, says Bernard Campan. He explains, however, that with his wife, they have done everything to keep in touch with the original family.

Bernard Campan talks about his son’s feelings

It’s overwhelming because it’s a joy and at the same time a great heartbreak because you are aware of this situation on the other side too.“, declares the actor who therefore did not want to make the family suffer. “He may feel like he was abandoned by his family in a way, but it’s certain that he didn’t end up in an orphanage when he was little, lost. He went from one family to another. But it was a trauma. We kept ties with the family, even if we’re not in touch. And about ten years ago, when Loan was 15, we went back there to see his family.” confided Bernard Campan with great modesty.
