Coldplay invites Michael J. Fox on stage: the actor brings Marty McFly back to life at Glastonbury

It was a performance rich in emotion that the group Coldplay offered on Saturday evening, while performing for the fifth time – a record – at the Glastonbury festival. When he resumed his song “Fix You” with his comrades, in front of an incredible crowd of more than 100,000 spectators, which notably included Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg and Gillian Anderson, Chris Martin brought actor Michael on stage J.Fox.

This inclusive gesture which proves that Coldplay is not a group like the others

With his Chuck Berry riff and the way he hit Biff: ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Michael J Fox“, Chris Martin told the crowd. With his electric guitar, the star of the films Back to the future thus recalled his passion for music. Michael J. Fox himself played his famous guitar solo when playing the role of Marty McFly in the first film released in 1985.

If he joined Coldplay on stage on Saturday night, it is because the actor and his musical performance in Back to the future directly inspired Chris Martin and his musicians when creating Coldplay in the late 1990s: “The main reason we are a band is because we were watching “Back to the Future,” so thank you to our forever hero and one of the most amazing people on Earth, Mr. Michael J. Fox. Thank you so much, Michael.

Reunion at Glastonbury, 8 years later

Already in 2016, during a concert in New Jersey, the group invited Michael J. Fox on stage to cover “Earth Angler” and “Johnny B. Goode”, two key tracks from the film “Back to the Future”. It was without his wheelchair that the actor, suffering from Parkinson’s disease for more than thirty years, offered some of his best riffs.

The Noble Cause Michael J. Fox Just Held a Country Concert For

With this new participation in the Glastonbury Festival, after having already performed in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016, Coldplay thus becomes the group which has performed there the most, thus surpassing the record previously held by The Cure and his four participations.
