The first American reviews are rave about “Longlegs”, expected on our screens on July 10. The spectators were carried away by the feature film, like the actress Maika Monroe by Nicolas Cage’s makeup.
As Longlegs prepares to hit our screens, the first reviews of the film starring Nicolas Cage are overwhelming and suggest that we are dealing with the scariest feature film of the year – and it’s not Maika Monroe, his on-screen partner, who will say the opposite.
The It Follows star is no stranger to horror movie monsters. And yet, the first time she saw Nicolas Cage in the skin of Longlegs, fully made up, her microphone, which was taped to her shirt, picked up her heart rate which then jumped to around 150 beats per minute while she simply sat looking at him. That says a lot…
While it hasn’t even been released yet, Oz Perkins’ film has already been dubbed the scariest feature film of 2024 – and even the decade for some – and has also earned a 100% rating on the review site Rotten Tomatoes. It would also leave its spectators so horrified that they would come away sick: this is something to delight horror fans who await its release with even more impatience.
In LonglegsFBI agent Lee Harker (Nice Monroe), a talented new recruit, is assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Nicolas Cage). The investigation, on the borders of the occult, becomes even more complex when she discovers a personal link with the ruthless killer that she must stop before he takes the lives of other innocent families. The film has been compared to The Silence of the Lambs, but much more frightening.
The first opinions
Some Internet users, who saw the film in preview, shared their first impressions on the subject and the least we can say is that Longlegs upset them.
“Longlegs is a film that shouldn’t exist. The absence of cheap gore and jump scares leaves room for something infinitely more shocking and sinister than anything we’ve seen in a long time. From the first shot, the tone is so diabolical that it is impossible to shake it off.”
“I saw Longlegs this morning and now I’m just supposed to… get on with my day? It is as if [le scénariste et réalisateur] Oz Perkins had seen The Silence of the Lambs and thought, ‘No, not twisted enough for me.’”

You’ll notice in the trailer that you don’t actually see Nicolas Cagewhich was a choice ofOz PerkinsSpeaking to Entertainment Weekly, he shared: “It’s the equivalent of putting a warning label on a jar of nitroglycerin. The monster is an extremely dangerous substance. The way it is moved, revealed, deployed must be treated with great care.”
He added : “Forget a movie theater explosion; the entire city could explode, even the country, maybe even the world. [Mon personnage] will change your reality. Your doors of perception will open and your life will no longer be the same.”

Longlegs will be available in cinemas from July 10.
