Nicole Kidman Finally Reveals The Truth Behind Her Famous Meme Celebrating Her Divorce From Tom Cruise

The same viral showing Nicole Kidman appearing to celebrate her divorce from Tom Cruise is actually completely fake, as the actress explained in an interview.

In a new interview with the British magazine GQ, Nicole Kidman returned to the famous photo dating from 2001, immortalized shortly after the officialization of her divorce from Tom Cruise. In this now cult photo, we see her walking in the street, her arms raised in an attitude that seems almost triumphant.

Asked if the rumors that the image was taken just after the dissolution of her first marriage were true, the actress burst out laughing before correcting: “That's not true, it's from a movie. I know this image. However, she did not cite the film in question. This meme notably resurfaced last September when Jenna Dewan shared it on Instagram, after the finalization of her stormy divorce from ex-husband Channing Tatum.

No hard feelings for the actress

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise were married in 1990 after meeting on the set of “Days of Thunder”, a film about the world of car racing. During their union, they adopted two children: Bella and Connor. After twelve years of marriage, they decided to separate in 2001, citing “irreconcilable differences”. Rumors then circulated that the reason for their breakup was the actress's refusal to join the Church of Scientology, of which Tom Cruise is an influential member.

Married to country singer Keith Urban since 2005, the actress also hinted at another viral moment: the GIF where she clapped in a strange way, using only the palms of her hands, during the 2017 Oscars. “I also saw the one where I applaud like this,” she said, imitating the movement. “I was wearing a very heavy, borrowed ring, and it was really painful, and I was worried about damaging the jewelry. Ha! “There’s always something behind the images that circulate, isn’t there?” she added.

The star concluded by saying she wasn't paying attention to the many same ones that emerged from her post-pandemic ads for AMC theaters, aimed at encouraging moviegoers to return to theaters. “Yeah, yeah. “Grief feels good in a place like this.” But I’ll do anything for film, so you can make me memes all you want,” she said casually.
