Famous for starring opposite each other in Forrest Gump, released in 1994, the duo reunites in a new drama, for a new love story.

In 1994, Robin Wright and Tom Hanks made us cry as Jenny and Forrest Gump. The film, directed by Robert Zemeckis, won the Oscar for best film and won Tom Hanks the Oscar for best actor. So how can you keep your heart from leaping when you learn that the trio is reunited again? It’s official though, Robin Wright and Tom Hanks are once again starring opposite each other under the eye of the director who made them famous. The dramatic comedy is called Here, and the first trailer was revealed by Sony Pictures this Wednesday, June 26. This film also marks the 6th collaboration between Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis, known for the two parts of Back to the future.

A piece through history

Here is the cinematic adaptation of the eponymous graphic novel written and drawn by Richard McGuire in 2014. Centered on a place more than on characters, it tells what happens there in different eras, from prehistory to today. This is also what the trailer for the film seems to announce, even if it seems to give a lot of space to the love story between Richard (Tom Hanks) and Margaret (Robin Wright). A romance that we witness from the same room in the same house, the living room, throughout the film, from their first emotions to their end of life. The latest images show an extremely aged Tom Hanks telling an equally aged Robin Wright: “This was our house. We lived here,” suggesting that the latter has Alzheimer’s.

“The performances are so good”

To account for the aging of the characters, the film crew explained that they used Metaphysic Live, based on artificial intelligence, to rejuvenate the actors in real time on set. By following the evolution of the characters through the ages, the film recalls The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, where Brad Pitt opposite Cate Blanchett. Regarding the use of this technique, Robert Zemeckis told Vanity Fair : “It only works because the performances are so good. Tom and Robin immediately understood that they had to go back and channel who they were 50 or 40 years ago, and that they had to bring that energy, that type of posture, and even raise their voices. This kind of things”.

The release of Here is scheduled to hit theaters on November 13, 2024.
