RSF x 100 photos for press freedom: Martine Franck

The 77th album of the collection RSF (Reporters Without Borders), 100 photos for press freedom is dedicated to Martine Franck.

The hundred-page portfolio offers a stroll through the work of Martine Franck and opens with a foreword by her friend Ariane Mnouchkine, founder of the Théâtre du Soleil.

The photographer born in Antwerp focuses on children, women, undocumented immigrants, the inhabitants of the distant Irish island of Toraigh and the undocumented immigrants of the Saint-Bernard Church in , the fishermen of Long Island… With her camera, Martine Franck removes them from time and places them in the field of the visible. Curious without being indiscreet, the photographer never falls into sordidness and pathos. The distance is right, the gaze benevolent and gentle, like a call to think about our humanity, and to take the time. Although she does not claim to be an activist, her work nevertheless bears the mark of a strong and sincere commitment, most often in black and white, and always served by a perfect composition.

100% of profits from album sales finance RSF’s actions in a concrete way. Each album sold allows us to defend the independence and reliability of journalism around the world.
