After her friend Queen Camilla, it is her turn to be on forced rest. “A serious respiratory infection” sees Queen Silvia of Sweden forced to stay in Stockholm, as revealed on November 18, 2024, by the Court in a brief press release. “Her Majesty The Queen has decided not to accompany His Majesty The King during the state visit to Singapore from November 19 to 21.” The palace states that Carl XVI Gustaf's wife “was looking forward to visiting Singapore and regrets not being able to be with the King during this trip.” “Out of consideration for the Singaporean hosts and the rest of the state visit delegation , the Queen chose to stay in Sweden so as not to risk exposing other people to the infection,” underlines the Court.

This trip was announced on October 11 by the palace, which explained that if it was the first state visit between the Scandinavian kingdom and the city-state, “the sovereign had however participated in other visits official meetings in Singapore in 1982 and 1991. The objective of this stay “aims to consolidate and develop the good relations between Sweden and Singapore and to strengthen economic and political ties, with a focus on trade, innovation, investment and green transition “.

King Carl XVI Gustaf will therefore be alone for this trip, the program of which was revealed only five days ago. However, there is no question of simply canceling the commitments planned by Queen Silvia in Singapore, such as the symposium on health care and the discovery of the Peranakan Museum this November 20. These will be provided in particular by the First Lady of the Queen's Court, Countess Anna Hamilton.

This announcement comes just two days after the publication in the Brazilian press of stolen photos of the royal couple. In the photos, we see Carl XVI Gustaf and Silvia enjoying the beach of Itacarezinho in Itacaré, in the state of Bahia, and happily indulging in bodysurfing. Having returned to Sweden for a week, the parents of Crown Princess Victoria had in fact spent around ten days in Brazil – where the queen grew up -, between official commitments and private stay. In the Stockholm Palace's agenda, Silvia's next outing from Sweden is scheduled for November 27. In Homburg, Germany – her native country – the king's wife will participate in the inauguration of the Saarland Children's House. Hoping she will be restored by then.
