Interviewed by our colleagues from Konbini, Teddy Riner delivered completely unexpected confidences about one of his adversaries. Enough to surprise more than one in the ranks of his fans.

Teddy Riner has once again made headlines. During an interview with Konbini, the Olympic champion mentioned a rumor that was as surprising as it was revealing. According to him, some of his opponents went so far as to ask their training companions to wear masks bearing his image to get used to facing him. An anecdote that says a lot about the intimidating aura of the French judoka.

A surprising confidence from Teddy Riner

“Teddy Bear”, as his fans affectionately call him, confided with humor: “ Schools in Japan? I can understand it. I remember, there was even a national team in Holland, where one of their judokas asked his opponents to put on a mask with my head. So yes, there are all kinds of tricks to prepare yourself, to try to find the solution! ».

Undivided domination

Far from being the result of chance, this anecdote testifies to the undivided domination of Teddy Riner on the international judo scene. Since his beginnings, the Frenchman has imposed a unique fighting style, combining power, technique and tactical intelligence. His adversaries, aware of their physical inferiority in the face of such an adversary, have therefore often sought indirect means to try to destabilize him: “ It's flattering to see how much I can make an impression. But it also shows that judo is a sport where psychology plays an essential role. Fear, doubt, can sometimes be stronger than technical qualities ».

An example for the younger generation

Beyond his exceptional sporting performances, Teddy Riner is also a role model for the younger generation. His journey, marked by perseverance and hard work, inspires many young judokas around the world. “I hope that my example can motivate young people to surpass themselves and to believe in their dreams,” he also confided.

And the future?

At 35, Teddy Riner remains at the top of his category. However, the future already looks busy for the French judoka. The 2024 Olympic Games which took place on its land represented a major objective. It was a successful bet for him and at the same time, an opportunity to take on new challenges: “ It's a dream that I've had for a long time. I will do everything to be at my best and offer a great show to the French public ».
