Victoria Kjær Theilvig (Miss Denmark) wins the election, Frenchwoman Indira Ampiot in the top 30

125 contenders from all over the world participated in the election of Miss Universe 2024 at the CDMX Arena in Mexico City, Mexico on the night of Saturday November 16 to Sunday November 17, 2024. After three hours of show, Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjær Theilvigwon the crown against Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, the representative of Nigeria.

The young woman, who celebrated her 21st birthday on November 13, is a marketing and economics student. Passionate about dance, she participated in numerous competitions. She is committed to animal rights and mental health.

The evening, commented live on Paris Première by the former boss of Miss France Sylvie Tellier and by the journalist François-Pier Pélinard-Lambert, opened with a first scene where all the participants danced on stage to ovations of 22,000 spectators. Then, each person introduced themselves to the audience by chanting the name of their country.

Indira Ampiot Miss France 2023, represented France. The 20-year-old young woman, originally from Guadeloupe, prepared for several months for this competition. She went to London to study English for six months and took numerous catwalk classes with the idea of ​​following in the footsteps of Christiane Martel and Iris Mittenaere who won the crown in 1953 and 2017.

Indira Ampiot was not the only Frenchwoman to participate in the competition. For the first time, representatives from Martinique and Guadeloupe were also among the candidates. The two presenters of the evening, Olivia Culpo (Miss Universe 2012) and Mario Lopez (actor seen notably in the series Saved by the Bell) presented the jury which still includes a former Miss Universe in its ranks. Last year, Iris Mittenaere (Miss Universe 2016) played this role. This time, it was Margaret Gardiner, Miss South Africa elected in 1978, who carried out this task.

The competition really began with the announcement of the names of the 30 semi-finalists. The latter were chosen during the Preliminary show which was held two days previously and during which the participants paraded in evening dresses, in swimsuits but also with their national costumes.

Frenchwoman Indira Ampiot was the first called. In her immaculate outfit, she flashed a resplendent smile and made a sign of thanks by clasping her hands. The representatives of India, Serbia, Vietnam, Puerto Rico, Nigeria, Canada (which has the distinction of being the first candidate from the First Nations), Cuba, China, Japan, Egypt (first participant to be affected by Vitiligo), Mexico, Argentina, Thailand, Peru, Macau, Philippines, Ecuador, Bolivia, Malaysia, Russia, Aruba, Finland , from the Dominican Republic, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Denmark, Venezuela, Zimbabwe and Chile also obtained their place for the rest of the competition.

Sheynnis Palacios, the reigning Miss Universe from Nicaragua, then appeared on stage to reflect on her reigning year. Then, she gave way to the thirty semi-finalists who paraded in swimsuits. Indira Ampiot opened the show all smiles in a pretty blue swimsuit with an absolutely perfect energetic catwalk.

The evening continued with the announcement of the twelve finalists. The Miss Bolivia, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Nigeria, Russia, Chile, Thailand, Denmark, Canada and Peru were chosen, making no less than seven representatives from South America. The contenders for the crown then paraded in an evening dress of their choice.

Quite quickly, the names of the five finalists were revealed. Candidates from Nigeria, Mexico, Denmark, Thailand and Venezuela were selected. They each had to answer a different question like “What are the qualities of a leader? » or “Describe the ideal woman and what does she have in common with you? »

Just after, the candidates answered a second question, the same for all, which was: “Miss Universe has inspired generations of women, what do you want to say to those watching you tonight? » Then, the presenters took turns announcing the ranking of each. Ileana Marquez Pedroza, Miss Venezuela finished 4th runner-up, Suchata Chuangsri, Miss Thailand placed 3rd runner-up, Maria Fernanda Beltran, Miss Mexico finished 2nd runner-up and Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina was elected 1st runner-up.

Victoria Kjær Theilvig won the competition and did not hide her surprise. She was then surrounded and celebrated by the 124 other candidates in the competition.
