Brigitte Bardotone of the greatest legends of French cinema, blew out its 90 candles last September. Although the actress isn't really the type to throw a big party, she took a moment to discuss her age and health with Le Parisien. And good news, even if time does its job, the star remains in shape, despite the small disadvantages linked to his age. “Now I don't walk at all”, she admitted, before joking: “I move around with my English canes. To dance, it's torture.” His last public outing was in 2018, when President Emmanuel Macron received her at the Élysée after her election. At the time, she already relied on crutches to get around, but her mind remains as sharp as it was in her days. And God… created woman and Contempt.
Brigitte Bardot: a discreet life, but always full of commitment
Brigitte Bardot, who is enjoying her retirement away from the paparazzi in her house in Saint-Tropez, is delighted with this tranquility after a busy life in the spotlight. “All my life I have been engineered, tricked, photographed like no one else in the world could be. Now what I want is calm ; serenity, the sweetness of life and more all that stuff”, she confides. But far from resting on its laurels, it continues to lead his fundamental fight in favor of animalsparticularly against the horsemeat trade.
On her 90th birthday, she did not expect gifts, but advocated for essential victories. “I'm not asking for a gift for my 90th birthday, but I would like us not to trample on the very rare advances obtained during these decades of fighting.” She is also outraged by the recent arrest of Paul Watson, the defender of the whalesand asks for his release. “France should grant it to me for my 90th birthday, I deserve it”, she says, before talking about her personal losses: “I am in great mourning. I lost my dog, my cat, Alain, and my friend Paul Watson is in prison. I can't tell you that I want to laugh.” Despite everything, the star remains determined to use his celebrity to defend his causes, even going so far as to go to the International Court of Justice to save his friend.
A busy love life
Brigitte Bardot, a woman of character who never hesitated to confide in her loves, his marriages and divorcesnever hid the fact that she had always been surrounded. “I have never lived alone, but always with a husband, lover or lover”, she tells bluntly to Franz-Olivier Giesbert in Le Point. When she talks about feminism and the evolution of women's rights, she admits a certain concern: “I fear that by wanting to free themselves, women will end up becoming unhappy”. A slightly less rosy vision than one might expect from an icon of emancipation.
For her, a single woman, juggling work, shopping and raising children, is a bit of hell: “Being a single woman who, while working, raises her children and runs errands is not a life. It is slavery.” More the icon of the Sixties do not allow yourself to be locked into imposed roles. She chose to fight for her freedom, even if it cost her dearly: “My freedom has sometimes cost me dearly. I was hunted down, insulted, dragged through the mud because of the way I lived.” And even if some women judged her harshly, the star fully assumes her freedom to live as she wants : “Often, I encountered women in the street who called me a whore.”
Brigitte Bardot: “I have never been raped”
Brigitte Bardot, always so frank and unfiltered, remembers the relaxed and sometimes unbridled atmosphere of the shoots: “During filming, I loved having their hands on my butt when I passed. It was the specialty of the machinists, very nice people, all great friends.“A time when the atmosphere was both free and family-oriented, according to her, where everyone knew where they stood, without much hypocrisy.
And when it comes to #MeToo movementthe star doesn't speak wooden language. “Me, I was never raped, never… Or I was consenting“, she declares bluntly. For her, if an actress was willing to flirt with producers in exchange for roles, that was her business: “If the girls agreed, why not? I've known people who, to get a role, didn't say no to the producer. It was their problem. It didn't concern me.“The ancient fatal beauty, true to herself, sums it all up sharply:”On the sets, the atmosphere was free, family-friendly.“
