“They say hello to me, it’s so-and-so”, his confidences about his vision problems

For thirty years, Evelyne Dhéliat has presented the weather on TF1. However, a small visual defect sometimes poses a problem for him.

Since the 1990s, Evelyne Dhéliat has been the most famous face of weather on TF1. Even today, she presents this program assiduously followed by the French. However, since March 2017, she has worked alternately with Louis Bodin and Tatiana Silva, who replaced Catherine Laborde. One thing is certain, the weather presenter does not intend to retire immediately, even if she has some health problems which can sometimes hinder her in her work. But which ones?

Evelyne Dhéliat talks about her health problems

Guest on the show We’re doing TV again, on Saturday June 8, 2024, Evelyne Dhéliat shared some secrets behind the scenes of the presentation of this emblematic program. She then revealed that she does not use a teleprompter when she presents the weather. “I don’t have a teleprompter already because I’m moving. It would take several”she first explained to Eric Dussart on RTL.

Furthermore, she does not always have the same amount of time on the air. “Normally, after Marie-Sophie Lacarrau’s diary, I have two minutes. But if I’m told it was shorter than expected, I have 20 seconds or a minute more. Or else, it’s ric-rac, so ‘above all, you don’t overflow!’ So, there’s no point in writing a text. And then I’ll tell you, I’m telling a story. So what I did, I often do a little introduction and then it depends on the time I have. It’s easier to be longer than to be short”explained Evelyne Dhéliat.

There’s even a third explanation for the lack of a teleprompter: his eyesight. “I still wear lenses if only to see the temperature figures, otherwise I think I would be in the dark”, she revealed, then suffering from myopia. Because of this vision problem, she has difficulty recognizing her colleagues in the corridors of TF1. “As we have long corridors, people say hello to me, it’s so-and-so, I know who I’m saying hello to. Or, we say hello to each other twice, because when I see the person up close, they say to me, have you already said hello to me?she said.

The weather presenter talks about her breast cancer

On this occasion, she also spoke about one of the most difficult moments of her life: her fight against breast cancer. “You tell yourself that you are not safe from anything and that it is true that you have to fight in life. And that it is an essential, important fight, and that is why I am now committed to the Ruban Rose association for October October Rose. When it happened to me, I said to myself, ‘It’s something personal, I’m not going to spread it’.”she explained.

Eventually, the weather presenter changed her mind and decided to talk about her struggle. “And then, when talking with the doctors, they told me: ‘you know, it’s important that people who have a bit of a presence in the street talk about it, for screening’. It’s super important, I feel it and I feel it in relation to the people who are affected or even to the women who tell me ‘you’re right, you need to know how to get tested’. It’s an important role and at some point, well, we put our private life in a corner, it’s a little exposed, because it’s important to others”, she added. Since then, she has been very involved in the fight against breast cancer.
