The arrival of a child disrupts the life of any parent, but for Mathieu Ceschin, this fatherhood is marked by a mixture of immense joy and deep concerns. Suffering from several genetic diseases, the former farmer did not let the uncertainty of his health prevent him from preparing for his son's future.
Mathieu Ceschin: his rare genetic disease
Revealed to the public during season 15 of Love is in the meadowMathieu Ceschin has since distinguished himself by his sincerity and resilience. Despite a life journey strewn with pitfalls, he made his dream of becoming a father come true thanks to surrogacy (GPA), which culminated last May with the birth of his son Ezio. This happiness, however, comes with difficult medical realities. Indeed, Mathieu carries a rare genetic disease, a major obstacle during his procedures for GPA.
During this time, he discovered he was a carrier of two other genetic conditions. Despite this news, he persevered and conducted extensive testing to ensure that his conditions would not be passed on to his child. The results showed that Ezio was out of danger and that the disease would die with his father. Nevertheless, the situation remains serious: Mathieu lives with a sword of Damocles, aware that he runs a significant risk of suffering a massive stroke.
Genetic disease: as a considerate dad, Mathieu Ceschin is already organizing the afterlife for his son
Aware of the uncertainties linked to his health, Mathieu Ceschin decided to anticipate Ezio's future. In a candid interview for the podcast Parents Firsthe explained that he had made detailed arrangements to protect his son. “Unlike parents who don’t plan anything, I have everything planned,” he confides. Mathieu therefore took financial measures, but also thought about Ezio's entourage. He thus ensured that a loving family would take over if necessary. “Apart from the pain which will be immense for the little one, I think, his life will continue,” he puts things into perspective, imbued with a certain philosophy of life.
Mathieu sees in his illness a paradox which led him to live more intensely. “My illness actually saved my life… I'm not afraid of anything because I have an illness that condemns me,” he says. Determined to make every moment unforgettable, he has already made the decision to home school during his son's first years, to better share precious moments and help him discover the world differently.
