Gabriella and Jacques of Monaco, the adorable twins of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco, will be 10 years old on December 10. They alone represent the future of the Monegasque dynasty and are already beloved figures of the Rock. Jacques Honoré Rainier, who bears the title of Marquis des Baux, is the direct heir to the Monegasque throne. Gabriella Thérèse Marie, for her part, holds the title of Countess of Carladès. From a very young age, Gabriella and Jacques were introduced to life at the Rock while having as normal a childhood as possible. Their parents ensure that they receive a balanced education and they attend Monegasque public schools and participate in cultural and sporting activities like all children their age. Princess Charlene has often expressed her desire to offer them an education that prepares them for their future responsibilities while letting them enjoy their childhood.
In an interview with the magazine Point of view, Prince Albert had confided about his offspring and their extra-curricular activities: “Our children are starting to play a bit of all sports. Besides, it’s great! Jacques practices taekwondo and Gabriella a little gymnastics. They both swim very well and have been introduced to fencing, tennis and volleyball.“. A busy schedule for those who entered CM1 last September, each in a class at the François-d'Assise-Nicolas-Barré institution in Monaco, located a few minutes from the princely palace. If they look as good as pictures on each official outing with their parentsthe twins sometimes do stupid things, like all children.
It's in the number of Paris Match of October 31 that the husband of Princess Charlene said more on this subject. Traveling to New York to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Princess Grace Awards, created by Rainier in tribute to his wife, Albert of Monaco shared his two youngest children's relationship with the French and English languages. Charlene being from South Africa, she speaks in English with their two children, Jacques and Gabriella but the prince tries to remedy this more and more. “I still try to speak to them most often in French, so they have made enormous progress. But when you have to stop them from doing something stupidI switch to English, just to make myself understood quickly”he declared not without humor.
Prince Albert discusses his relationship with the French language
Our colleagues from Paris Match recall that Prince Rainier's son had the same relationship with these two languages since Grace Kelly was American. Subject to a slight stutter when he was a teenager, the prince found it easier to express himself in English than in French. “His mother's tongue, soft and envelopingrather than that of his father, certainly more severe”writes Paris Match. And the main interested party confides: “I can count on the fingers of both hands the number of times I spoke French with my mother. Our dinners were in English”. And it would seem that his children are in the same situation since on the Rock we are far from only expressing ourselves in the language of Molière.
